Running Center

About the Program
Towson Sports Medicine offers a comprehensive program designed specifically for endurance athletes. Our program has two main goals: to diagnose and assist you in recovering from an injury, and to help prevent injuries from occurring. Staffed by board certified athletic trainers and physical therapists, the program is directed by Dr. Teri M. McCambridge who is a board certified pediatrician and fellowship-trained in sports medicine.

Injury Evaluation
The injury screening program includes a complete evaluation and diagnosis. Based on the evaluation you may be given a home exercise program or if necessary, referred to a physician. Other referrals may include proper shoe fitting or orthotics. Towson Sports Medicine also offers an aquatic program for cross training while you are recovering from an injury.

The most common injuries among endurance athletes are overuse injuries. These include tendonitis, bursitis, stress fractures, patellofemoral stress syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and shin splints. This is not an all encompassing list, as many other injuries can occur in the endurance athlete. Not every injury is caused by the same factors and an evaluation can determine which course of treatment is best for you.

Injury Prevention
The best way to prevent overuse injuries is to be educated. The running center offers educational talks and screenings to organizations, clubs, and recreational centers. The running center also offers individual gait analysis to educate on proper footwear and/or activities that will prevent those re-occurring problems. To schedule an injury evaluation, educational talk, or gait analysis, call 410-337-8847. Ask for a running center professional.
