Physical Therapy

  • Physical therapy is provided and supervised by State of Maryland licensed physical therapists. Physical therapy will aid patients in returning to an optimal level of function following injury or illness. The physical therapists use patient education, therapeutic exercise, modalities such as ice, heat, ultrasound, and TENS, splinting and hands-on manual therapy to aid patient in their recovery goals.  Physical therapy services are offered for general orthopaedic and post-surgical treatment.

Occupational Therapy/Hand Therapy

  • Occupational Therapy/Hand Therapy is provided by Maryland licensed Occupational Therapists who have received further certification in Hand Therapy. Occupational Therapists/Certified Hand Therapists focus on individuals with disorders of the hands and upper extremities under the supervision of hand/orthopedic surgeons at Towson Orthopaedic Associates. Services include customized treatment programs aimed at improving an individual's ability to participate in daily activities following injury or illness involving the hand or upper extremity. The occupational therapist/CHT is able to evaluate, treat, and splint complex hand, wrist, and elbow injuries. The Occupational Therapist/CHT uses patient education, home programs, modalities, therapeutic exercise/activities, splinting, manual therapy, daily living skills training, and neuromuscular re-education to maximize the individual's hand, wrist or elbow recovery goals. Since people value the use of their hands, and any loss of function affects their daily activities, an Occupational Therapist/CHT is a valuable asset on the treatment team here at TSM. Occupational Therapy helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives.

Aquatic Therapy

  • Aquatic Therapy is an excellent form of treatment to aid patients with increasing mobility, strength, and flexibility due to the buoyant properties of the water. Many different aquatic exercise programs can be designed, from programs for post physical therapy patients to chronic pain sufferers, as well as for those looking to lose weight and gain fitness. Therapy is directly supervised by physical therapists trained in aquatic exercise.
